Echoing The April 1999 Columbine Massacre

School violence didn't start with the killings at Columbine High School, but it sent terrible shock and sadness far from Littleton, Colorado, where it took place. Youth Journalism International students tackled the story as best they could. The work was published in the online teen newspaper, The Tattoo at www.ReadTheTattoo.com.

In the wake of the awful massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, here is more from Youth Journalism International's student writers and artists on school violence.

The cartoon above is by artist Courtney Pendleton, then a student at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol, Conn. After completing her studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Courtney Pendleton is a neurosurgery intern at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Penn.
